Billy Joel - Only the Good Die Young

  1. I find it entertaining that there is so much emphasis in this song about just doing what you want in life. This song is Joel's attempt to poke fun at Christianity and their belief in waiting till marriage. While on the surface the song only seems to be talking about him seducing a Catholic school girl, it has a deeper message that attempts to convey that we only have one life, and that we need to live it without restraints before we die.
"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints."

  2. Good point Matt.
I have to agree with you. It's funny how a lot of us sing along to songs without really listening to the lyrics. I used to think that song was good, a classic, before taking the time to read the lyrics. It may seem to those looking on the outside that Christianity is preventing us from having too much fun. "The stained glass curtain you're hiding behind never lets in the sun." I would have to say it's the opposite. Christianity is a satisfying relationship with our Creator, and it is the only sun that gives me lasting joy!
