A beautiful death

Lifes final exam 300 reminded me of the movie 300 and when they were talking about a beautiful death. If you havent seen the movie basicallly dying on the battle field is the most honorable way to die in their culture. Meeting their match and dying fighting for what they believe in is sought after by the Spartan soldiers. I can relate this to our fellow Americans who die fighting for our country. What it all comes down to is that they are fighting for this country and our freedom, which isnt free at all. I am thankful for every person that serves for our country.

Heres a short clip from the movie referring to a beautiful death

  1. How incredible is it that we have people out there that ARE fighting for OUR lives. These are the people that we really should question about thoughts on death and dying. I would guess that life is lived simply for them. They have families and children too, and yet, they put millions ahead of them. It's intriguing to me. Our soldiers wake up every morning not knowing what's going to happen, but are calm and contented with the idea of dying. It's a whole different level of acceptance.

  2. I think that in all cultures there is a reverence for people who die in the line of duty. Whether that duty is to their country, or a loved one, or a cause, people who die FOR something are usually viewed in a more honorable way than those who's death did not come as a result of trying to protect something.

Even people who die supporting things that go against what we believe seem to earn our respect. Soldiers fighting on the other side in a war, or people who die at a rally to support some kind of radical way of thinking are often viewed negatively, but at the same time we can't help but feel that their deaths are heroic in some way.

  3. I love this. There are so many beautiful ways to live your life, and by dying a beautiful death you die with honor and pride. All of the men and women who fight for our freedom everyday, know that there is a possibility that they are going to die, and yet they all hope for a beautiful death. There are also so many ways to have a happy and well spent life, that there are so many ways to have a beautiful death. Dying beautifully represents a beautifully lived life! <3 and we can all live in the hopes of dying beautifully ourselves and that, to me, is extremely comforting!
